Welcome

We set up our adoption blog so you can get to know our family a little better. I started blogging back in 2007 and have kept up with it over the years. At the end of every year, we print off our blog for that year and give it to Daniel's mom for her Christmas present. She keeps all of her children's yearly journals in a notebook that we will get back one day to pass down to our kids. I try to keep it up to date as much as I can.

When we decided to start the adoption process, I decided to make an identical blog for birth mothers to read. Everything that I write about my family on our personal blog, I copy it over to my adoption blog. I understand that an adoption profile only gives limited information about us and we want you to have the opportunity to really get to know who we are and what we like to do as a family. Our adoption blog will show you who we were even before we adopted our boys. Feel free to read as much as you want or click on the links up above!

Saturday hike

Daniel had wanted to take me on a little hike behind our house for some time now. So this past Saturday, we packed up a backpack with a little picnic and headed out. The only thing I was really scared of was snakes. Especially after going to the zoo and seeing the extremely venomous cottonmouth snake that lives in Fort Worth. Luckily though, I didn't see any scary animals or insects, just a rabbit, birds and cows. First of all, I didn't realize how many cactuses were behind our house. At one part it was like walking through a landmine trying not to step on any of them. I think we passed through barbed wire at least 10 times. I now consider myself a pro at going over and through barbed wire. At one point, we had to pass through the barbed wire and get on the railroad track because the water was too deep to pass. I actually liked walking on the railroad track much better because it was so much easier than trying to walk through twigs that were taller than me. Then we heard a train and had to get off the tracks and get down the hill really fast so that they wouldn't see us. That was probably one of my favorite parts because I love the adrenaline rush. Then once we were down the hill, we realized that we needed to pass over a little stream of water. Daniel started searching for big rocks so that I could cross over the water. I decided that I didn't want to have our picnic on the grass where bugs were and so we decided to hike over to elementary and middle school. Another reason for this is also because my allergies were acting up due to me being allergic to grass and who knows what else. I was blowing my nose every couple seconds. Luckily, I had taken some medicine before I left the house and so it wasn't bad the entire time. Well in order to get to the school yard we had to climb over a big tall wood fence. It was a lot harder than I remember it being when I was younger. So we had our little picnic on the nicely short grass. After we ate our little snacks, we went and played on the playground for a little while. Then we decided that we should probably head home. We took a different way home which was a lot easier since we found a little path. We had to pass over a few little things of water....so Daniel just put me on his back and walked over the water since he had on hiking shoes. While walking on the path, we kept seeing cow dung on the ground but no cows. Finally, we started to hear the cows. We decided that they probably weren’t going to hurt us and so we just kept walking as they stared us down. Finally, I dragged Daniel to walk through some houses they are building in our neighborhood and then we headed home. I definitely had fun but would not do this again too often, maybe a few times a year when the weather is beautiful.
