Welcome

We set up our adoption blog so you can get to know our family a little better. I started blogging back in 2007 and have kept up with it over the years. At the end of every year, we print off our blog for that year and give it to Daniel's mom for her Christmas present. She keeps all of her children's yearly journals in a notebook that we will get back one day to pass down to our kids. I try to keep it up to date as much as I can.

When we decided to start the adoption process, I decided to make an identical blog for birth mothers to read. Everything that I write about my family on our personal blog, I copy it over to my adoption blog. I understand that an adoption profile only gives limited information about us and we want you to have the opportunity to really get to know who we are and what we like to do as a family. Our adoption blog will show you who we were even before we adopted our boys. Feel free to read as much as you want or click on the links up above!

Swift kick in the butt

There's nothing like a swift kick in the butt to get you moving. In my case, it wasn't a kick in the butt; it was a impact with a fence. Our house is at the back of our subdivision so we have wide open prairie land behind us. With the brainstorming of my parents we decided that I could actually use some of the land right behind my house to plant a small garden. So here is a status update for Mom and Dad. Here is what my neighbors house looks like behind his fence. This is also what mine looked like a few weeks ago.

The weeds and brush come about waist high.

Over the past few weeks, I've slowly been clearing it out. I'll Roundup one area, wait a few weeks, clear it out, pile the dead brush up in small piles and then burn them up. Then I'll move onto the next area. Here is the progress I've made.

Well, if I want to work in the back, I either have to walk all the way from the front yard to the back, or I can just hop the fence. I usually end up doing 50/50 of both. Today, I had to fill up some buckets with water because I was about to burn some of the brush. Instead of carrying the full buckets from the front yard to the back, I just flung the hose over the fence to start filling up the bucket. After filling up the bucket, I had to jump back over the fence to turn the water off. Combine the fact that I was in a hurry and the fence was wet, and let's just say, I wasn't too graceful. Here's what ended up happening.

This is one of the few times it actually hurts worse than it looks. Anyway, after this little accident, I finally decided to quit procrastinating and solve the problem. Here is the solution.

No more jumping over the fence or walking around the whole yard. I'll just use the gate. It's only 2 years after I originally decided to put a gate in...great turn-around.
