I hate running so I thought biking would most resemble hiking up a mountain and get me in shape. So, guess who bought a new toy?!? I just bought a new bicycle. Unfortunately a nice bike (not from Walmart or Academy) costs a pretty penny. When I first brought it up to Laura and took her to go look at bikes, she had a little bit of sticker shock. I think she was expecting a little more in the $200 range. Anyway, we ended up settling on an entry level middle of the line bike. Its a Trek FX 7.2 bike. Its basically a mixture of a road bike (thin tires, faster speed) and a mountain bike (straight handlebar, stability).

We ended up buying it and bought a few of the accessories at the bike shop and then headed to Sports Authority to get a couple other accessories and at a much cheaper price. After we bought it, Laura said that she planned to go to the mall area later that day to shop for stuff without me. Well, with gas prices the way they are, I didn't see the point of us going all the way home just for her to head back out in an hour or so.
I got this brilliant idea to just ride my bike home. On my mission I'd bike hours and hours, miles and miles a day. I could bike 10 miles easy. So I started out (no water, lots of clothes on, 1pm in the afternoon, and not having eaten anything all day). Obviously I was a little out of my mind. As it turns out, I made it about halfway and was about to die. I was dying of thirst when I saw a Sonic beaming in the distance like a gift from God...Okay, that's a little over dramatic, but you get the point. I hate to admit it, but I began to feel nauseous and weak from heat exhaustion. I bought a drink and ended up staying at Sonic and resting. Luckily Laura was only running a quick errand so she met me when she was done and picked me up. I felt like such a loser! Anywho, it was a good wake up call. I've got a lot of conditioning to do before August. Two months is pushing it, but I think I can get in decent shape before I go. At least I hope so!
