Welcome

We set up our adoption blog so you can get to know our family a little better. I started blogging back in 2007 and have kept up with it over the years. At the end of every year, we print off our blog for that year and give it to Daniel's mom for her Christmas present. She keeps all of her children's yearly journals in a notebook that we will get back one day to pass down to our kids. I try to keep it up to date as much as I can.

When we decided to start the adoption process, I decided to make an identical blog for birth mothers to read. Everything that I write about my family on our personal blog, I copy it over to my adoption blog. I understand that an adoption profile only gives limited information about us and we want you to have the opportunity to really get to know who we are and what we like to do as a family. Our adoption blog will show you who we were even before we adopted our boys. Feel free to read as much as you want or click on the links up above!

Ski Trip 2009

I've been lucky enough to go on a couple of fun trips in February. First, I went on a ski trip. My dad's Christmas present to my brother and I is to take us on an annual ski trip. I didn't go last year because of work (stupid mistake that I'll never do again). Dad, Brian, and I flew up to Salt Lake on Tuesday, February 3. Wednesday we went to Alta. It was a bright blue sky and no cloud to be seen. We basically had the whole mountain to ourselves. I was a little nervous at first since I hadn't gone skiing for a few years. I didn't want to hold Brian and my dad back. Well, it didn't take long for me to get over any nervousness. We were on the VERY first chair in the morning. It took me about 30 seconds before I got my skiing legs back and I was back to my old self. Point the tips downhill and never look back. We skied until the lifts closed. In all, we got in 27 runs. I don't think we ever had to wait more than 30 seconds in a line.

It is interesting to look at how Dad, Brian, and myself differ in our skiing habits.

Brian, in my opinion, has the best form out of all of us. He's graceful, cautious, and always in control. He may have a few minor falls that everyone has now and then. In short, Brian and I are complete opposites.

I don't have the best form, I'm wild, willing to try anything, and usually pushing the edge of control. Bring on the moguls, trees, and steep slopes. Because of that, I'll usually have one or two pretty spectacular falls, especially as I get more and more tired. Luckily I have good balance to help me keep some semblance of control and have learned how to fall to avoid major injuries when I do fall.

And Dad is the energizer bunny. He can just keep going and going and going. His 25 and 32 year old sons can barely keep up at the end of the day with this 56 year old. He's a good mix of Brian and I when it come to actual skiing though.

Anyway, back to the ski trip. Thursday we went to Solitude. Cloudy skies, but no snowfall. This place was just about as deserted as Alta. Since Solitude has somewhat shorter runs, we got in 33 in all.

Friday we went to Snowbird. Garner III was able to join us. It snowed all day and we had several inches of fresh powder to ski in. It's a great feeling to be the very first to ski a run through powder. It takes a lot more concentration than groomed runs though. There were parts of the day where it was so snowy and cloudy that you couldn't see but 20 yards in front of you. By about 2 or so, all of us were pooped (except Dad of course). We did the unthinkable and left before the lifts closed. I didn't mind because more and more people were showing up by the minute (as school was getting out).

All in all, I had a great time being able to spend some time with the best guys I know. I always come away from spending time with my brother and dad thinking how lucky I am. I glad we are in the same family cause I don't think I would have been able to find better friends. Thanks Brian and Dad!
