Welcome

We set up our adoption blog so you can get to know our family a little better. I started blogging back in 2007 and have kept up with it over the years. At the end of every year, we print off our blog for that year and give it to Daniel's mom for her Christmas present. She keeps all of her children's yearly journals in a notebook that we will get back one day to pass down to our kids. I try to keep it up to date as much as I can.

When we decided to start the adoption process, I decided to make an identical blog for birth mothers to read. Everything that I write about my family on our personal blog, I copy it over to my adoption blog. I understand that an adoption profile only gives limited information about us and we want you to have the opportunity to really get to know who we are and what we like to do as a family. Our adoption blog will show you who we were even before we adopted our boys. Feel free to read as much as you want or click on the links up above!

Big Scare!

On Saturday we had a whole day planned. We let the boys take their naps first and then we headed over to Arlington. We stopped by Costco to pick up a few items and then headed over to Sheplers because I needed to get a new pair of boots. Daniel headed over to the women's boot while I went to the restroom. When I found him, he showed me a pair that he liked and thought I would like. I guess he knows me too well because they were the exact same pair of boots that I had planned on looking for at the store. I found my size and decided that those were the boots that I wanted. We checked out prices online to see if anyone else carried them for a better price and Cavenders right next door had them for $20 less.

Once we got to Cavenders, I found my boots and gave them to the sales guy to hold. We took our boys over to the toddler section and let them try on some cowboy hats and boots. Carter started to get fussy and so we decided it was time to leave. We wanted to head over to Toys R Us next to see if they had any play sets that we could put in our backyard. On the way there Carter just started crying so I tried giving him some snacks thinking he was just hungry. That didn't help at all and then he just started screaming and reaching for me. We could just tell that he was in pain but we weren't sure why. He doesn't ever act like this and it was atypical of him. He is our tough boy that will only cry for seconds when he hurts himself. We decided to pull over into a CVS parking lot and take him out of his car seat. By this time he was even worse. His whole body would just tense up and there were a few moments when he was okay and not crying. I ran into CVS and grabbed some Tylenol. After giving it to him we decided to needed to get him to a doctor right away because he weren't sure what was wrong. Daniel started driving and I was on the phone looking up emergency centers. All the Urgent Care places were closed but I was able to talk to someone at an Urgent Care. She told me that they were closing and weren't accepting any new patients. So I told her the situation and begged her to let us come in (I even asked her if she could hear my child screaming in the background). She agreed as long as we got there before she locked the doors which would be in 5 minutes. We were only a few minutes away but we had several lights that we had to go through.

Daniel pulled up to the door and I jumped out and grabbed Talon so I could fill out the paperwork. They saw Carter right away and check his ears, temperature and blood pressure. The doctor said since he was screaming so much that he couldn't do anything else and he wanted us to head over to the emergency center at Cook's Children's Hospital. The doctor told us to go ahead and that he would call ahead so that they would expect us. We had a 20-30 minute drive and we were not looking forward to the long drive with a child in so much pain.

After putting Carter in the car, Daniel gave Carter a blessing and he immediately stopped crying and calmed down. We got in the car and he fell asleep right away and was out the whole drive to the hospital. After we got there, I ran in with Talon and filled out the paperwork. While Daniel was finding a parking spot, they called Carter twice. They don't mess around at that hospital. They asked us lots of questions and this whole time Carter was acting fine now but we knew we needed to get him checked out to make sure it wasn't anything serious. The doctor came in and examined him fully and said that it sounds like it was just really bad gas. I have never seen Carter in so much pain as I did last night. He is happy and back to himself now and we are relieved that it wasn't anything serious. Talon was so good during the whole night and we are thankful for him behaving so well.

Isn't he so cute in his gown?

It was quite funny because as soon as we walked through the door I asked the boys if they were hungry. It was about 10:30 (way past bedtime) and none of us had eaten dinner. So I go and put Talon in his high chair and as I turn around I see Carter carrying the huge container of animal crackers. It was the cutest thing! I think he was trying to tell me that he was hungry and he wanted some animal crackers! Well we just couldn't say no to that.

We were so blessed that Daniel has the priesthood and was able to give Carter a Father’s blessing. I have never seen a blessing work that fast in my entire life but it was definitely a big testimony booster to the both of us. I am also go glad that neither one of us weren't by ourselves when this happened because we were both scared out of our minds for our son. We both have no doubt that Carter is feeling better and back to himself because of the power of the blessing he received.
